Project Details
Sculpt a piece of popcorn using the pinch construction method. 

Project Specs
  • Pinch construction
  • Sculpt a realistic looking piece of popcorn
  • Scale up to a minimum of 7" and maximum 10"

Deliverables
  • Completed scaled up, realistic, popcorn sculptural form, properly stained and glazed. Bisque and glaze fired by deadline.
Define Design Problem
  • Restate the project guidelines in your own words to be sure you understand the process and goals.
  • What are you trying to communicate? 
  • Who is your audience? How do you want your audience to feel when viewing your work? What message should your audience take away?

Research & Collect Info - take notes during hands-on demonstrations, watch tutorials, read some literature, search the internet, gather reference images, etc.

Start with the following:
  • Define ceramics, ceramic process, wedging.
  • What is pinch construction / pinch pots?

Brainstorm
  • Choose a piece of popcorn for reference. Take many photos of it from all angles.
  • Analyze the form. Look for the main body (largest part) and offshoots.
  • Simply the form in your head. 
  • Draw several sketches of the different parts and the whole.

Develop
  • Sculpt the final piece of popcorn.

Get Feedback / Seek Critique
  • In this course we will seek feedback throughout the entire design / construction process.​ 

Refine 
  • Improve your design based on the feedback given.
